Planning for Canada – Website Design & Development

Planning for Canada helps eligible newcomers prepare for life in Canada before they arrive through free, IRCC-funded pre-arrival support delivered by Colleges and Institutes Canada. 1dea redesigned and rebuilt the bilingual website to create a clearer, more accessible, and action-oriented experience.

The Why Behind the Work

Planning for Canada needed a website that could guide eligible newcomers with clarity, care, and confidence before they arrive in Canada. Core goals of the website were to help visitors understand the program, check eligibility, register for services, and access trusted resources. The redesigned experience shifts the site from a gatekeeping approach to a more welcoming journey, using simplified navigation, guided eligibility pathways, and plain-language content to help users understand the program, access trusted resources, and take the right next step.

How We Helped

1dea redesigned and developed a bilingual WordPress website with a stronger user journey, clearer content structure, and mobile-first layouts. The project included UX strategy, information architecture, conversion-focused content, custom post type structures for resources and success stories, accessibility considerations, SEO/GEO planning, and a supporting brand standards document. Visually, the design builds on Planning for Canada’s existing identity with clean layouts, accessible colour use, purposeful iconography, full-colour storytelling photography, and soft mint treatments that create a calm, trustworthy, and welcoming digital experience.

Helping Newcomers Start Before They Arrive

Planning for Canada’s redesigned website gives eligible newcomers a clearer path to support before landing in Canada. Through simplified navigation, plain-language content, guided eligibility checks, and a stronger resource structure, the site helps users understand the program, build trust, and take action with confidence.

It's been a pleasure working with you and the entire 1dea team.

Embracing the Bruce Brand

We began working with Bruce County at a time where they were first exploring rollout of their new brand. Beginning with an important strategic planning document, 1dea’s has now supported several core departments in overhauling all of their brand materials. This includes reports, websites, postcards, brochures, recruitment package, handbooks, flyers and more.

Designing for Print

Utilizing one of 1dea’s core services; graphic design for print materials, was a heavy focus of many County of Bruce initiatives. Each page layout required adherence to the brand styles and graphic impact with heavy use of infographics. To date, 1dea has developed 25 print documents with 500+ pages of custom layout.

Designing for AODA Compliance

1dea has supported both public and private sector clients in their actions to create publications that meet provincial accessibility standards for print and web (WCAG 2.0, Level AA). Where requested, the majority of all County of Bruce materials fully comply as web accessible digital documents.
